Itinerary
Full day Trek To Waqra Pukara Itinerary:
Cusco – Cusipata – Santa Lucia – Waqra Pukara – Cusco
We will pick you up from your hotel/hostel between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. If, for some reason, your hotel is not located in the Historic Center, we will pick you up at the main door of the cathedral. Once the whole group is gathered, we will begin the trip in our private tourist transport, which will take approximately 1 ½ hours to reach the town of Cusipata, where we will have breakfast.
Afterwards, we will return to our transport, which will take us on an almost 2-hour journey along a zigzag unpaved road to the town of Santa Lucia. From there, we will continue for another 10 minutes by car until we reach Punta Carretera. At this point, we will have about 10 minutes to make final preparations before starting our hike towards Waqra Pukara.
We will walk along a slightly flat path with small ups and downs for about an hour until we reach the most challenging part, which is a zigzag climb that lasts approximately 30 minutes until we reach the Waqra Pukara Viewpoint. Here, we will stop to take the first photos of the Waqra Pukara Archaeological Complex.
Next, we will begin the ascent towards the archaeological complex for about 10 minutes until we reach the ceremonial center itself. As we approach, we will observe gigantic rock formations that add depth to the Apurímac River Valley.
We will explore the ceremonial center of Waqra Pukara for a better understanding. After a mandatory photo session, we will have time to enjoy our Box Lunch (which includes rice with vegetables, grilled chicken fillet, 1 cookie, 1 piece of fruit, 1 bottle of water, and 1 caramel).
Following a well-deserved rest, we will begin the descent, covering about half of the way back to the place known as Punta Carretera. There, our transport will be waiting to take us back to the City of Cusco. The return journey will take approximately 3 ½ hours, with an estimated arrival time of around 6:00 p.m.
